Holiday auction
FARMINGTON – Farmington Ski Club’s 10th annual holiday auction will feature a variety of items from area businesses as well as community members. Auction bidding will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Granary Restaurant.
There will be live auction as well as many items on the silent auction tables. They include handcrafted items, an antique clock, golf and ski passes, a spring vacation in the White Mountains, a granite bench, pottery and other pieces of art and gift certificates.
Proceeds will help support this season’s capital improvements, a tractor for year-round maintenance and lift upgrades.
Those interested in having dinner as well should ask to be seated upstairs in the function room. For more information, call 778-9031.
Ham supper
FARMINGTON – A public ham supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Trinity United Methodist Church to support the mission project of Steve Hoyt and family, who will go to Uganda.
The menu consists of ham, raisin sauce, mashed potatoes, peas/carrots, homemade biscuits and dessert for $7. All are welcome.
Winter concert
FARMINGTON – The UMF Community Chorus, conducted by Dennis Hayes, and the Monteverdi Singers, led by Steven Pane, will present “A Winter Choral Concert” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Nordica Auditorium, University of Maine at Farmington.
The program will include Tomas de Vittoria’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” Egil Hovland’s “Saul” and Benjamin Britten’s “Hymn to the Virgin,” in addition to holiday songs and carols.
The program will also include a preview of Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610,” the work the choirs will perform in the spring. Joining the Monteverdi choir will be UMF’s a cappella student ensemble, Sole Expression, and tenor soloist, Dan Woodward.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and are available at Mickey’s Hallmark or by calling 778-7072.
Church supper
WILTON – A public supper will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the First Apostolic Church to benefit the building fund. The menu will include baked beans, hot dogs, potato salad and coleslaw, casseroles and desserts. Adults are $5; children, $3.
Santa to visit
RANGELEY – Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves will visit children from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Conference Center, Wilhelm Reich Museum, Dodge Pond Road.
The public is welcome to “breakfast with Santa.” Santa’s helpers will prepare a breakfast of chocolate chip, blueberry or plain pancakes served with syrup, sausages and a beverage.
Children can help Santa’s elves make crafts and ornaments as well as decorate Christmas cookies.
Admission fee is $5 a person. A photographer will be available for anyone who would like a picture of their child with Santa for an additional fee. Decorated fir Christmas wreaths will be on sale as well.

Tree lighting
LIVERMORE FALLS – A spirit of the season Christmas tree lighting and parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, in Union Park. The tree lighting will be held following the 5:45 p.m. parade.
Santa will arrive riding a fire truck to have pictures take with local children. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Coats for Kids Project. Special entertainment and free refreshments will be available.
The Jay/Livermore Falls Rotary has sponsored the project for a number of years. Individuals or businesses can donate $5 to light a bulb on the “Spirit of the Season” tree in honor or in memory of a special person. All funds collected will be used to buy coats for area children. A storm date of Sunday, Dec. 4, is planned.
UMF craft fair
FARMINGTON – A Christmas craft fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Olsen Student Center, University of Maine at Farmington. Admission is free. The fair is sponsored by the Franklin County Arts and Crafts Association.
Fair, luncheon
FARMINGTON – A holiday craft fair and luncheon will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the American Legion Hall. There will be two floors of crafts and a large luncheon menu. The event is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28 of Farmington.
Operation Santa
FARMINGTON – Operation Santa Claus will be at Wal-Mart to collect donations of gifts, gift cards and cash for greater Franklin County children and older seniors in need this holiday season. Join the fund-raiser for a cup of hot cocoa from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Wal-Mart entrances.
Operation Santa Claus provides children and older seniors gifts of toys, warm clothing, and other needed items.
Volunteers for Operation Santa Claus also plan to be in the Chester Greenwood parade that day. For more information, call 645-3764, ext. 5258.
