AUBURN – Temple Shalom Nursery School will host an open house at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29. Highlighting the evening will be a special, multi-cultural story time presented by Cindy Larock, former “Story Lady” at the Lewiston Public Library.

She is coordinator of the library’s new Marsden Hartley Cultural Center. Her program, enhanced by lively songs accompanied on guitar, features whimsical picture books such as “The Crayon Box That Talked” and “We All Sing with the Same Voice,” which celebrate diversity and cooperation among people regardless of their creed, color or social standing.

Visitors will also be invited to take part in craft activities and refreshments, to tour the facility’s classrooms and to meet with the preschool’s teachers, Claudette Turcotte and Judy Jones.

Temple Shalom Nursery School has a philosophy of helping children learn to play and learn in a friendly and cooperative way. “The staff tries to teach social and communication skills above all else here,” said Anne Dramko, a member of the school’s advisory board and mother to student Evan, age 4.

“The children clearly thrive in such an environment, and these are abilities that will stay with them for the rest of their lives, paving their way toward happy, healthy futures both in the classroom and in the larger world beyond,” she said.

The school is accepting students for the new term, which will begin on Jan. 3. Any youngster who turns 3 by Jan. 1, 2006, and who is potty trained, is eligible to enroll. More information about the open house or about the school is available by calling 786-4201. The preschool is located at 74 Bradman St. just off of Center Street.
