SOUTH PARIS – Janice L. Leeman, 53, of Lewiston, died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris with her loving family by her side, after a 17-year battle with a long-term illness.

She was born in Norway on Oct. 30, 1952, the daughter of Thomas and Doris (Reynolds) Leeman. She attended local schools. She married Evan Varney on July 3, 1971.

She had many careers, always choosing professions where she could help other people, including working as a certified nurse’s assistant, a nutritionist and a dental hygienist. Her favorite career choice, though, was raising her three children, Kevin, Chris and Dwayne.

In earlier years, she loved to travel and always had a keen sense of adventure. Later on, her favorite activity was shopping at Wal-Mart with her daughter-in-law, Jamie, where she could always find something for her grandson, Brandon, or her children.

Janice was a woman of great faith and loved spending time with her family. One of her favorite activities was watching various cooking shows and then whipping up a big meal for all her family and friends. She loved the holiday season and the look in her kids’ eyes on Christmas morning as they opened presents. One of her last activities was recently celebrating the holidays with her family by her side.

She is survived by her parents, Tom and Doris Leeman of South Paris; her former husband, Evan Varney and his fiance, Brenda Hudson, of Harrison; three sons, Kevin Varney and his wife, Jamie, of Lewiston, Chris Varney of Scarborough, and Dwayne Varney and fiance, Laura Curry, of Lewiston; two brothers, Gordon Leeman and wife, Marlene, of Oxford, and Steve Leeman and wife, Nancy, of Lewiston; two sisters, Nancy Valente and husband, Irving, of Mechanic Falls, and Dorothy Nurmi and husband, Bill, of Norway; three aunts, Elva and Valda Reynolds, both of South Paris, and Arlene Reynolds; two uncles, Winnfield Reynolds of South Paris and Gordon Reynolds of Bangor; a cousin, Gary Churchill and wife, Diana, of South Paris; and grandson, Brandon Varney of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by a brother, Peter Leeman; granddaughter, Gabrielle; and her aunt, Hazel.
