LEWISTON – A citywide ban on overnight parking begins Thursday, Dec. 1.

Parking on any street between midnight and 6 a.m. may result in a $20 fine.

Prohibitions on all streets with restricted daytime parking, which limits parking to one side of the street during the winter months, will also begin Dec. 1.

However, another ban could hit sooner if it snows.

The city may declare an emergency parking ban, prohibiting parking in daytime, nighttime or both. Getting in the way of street plowing could result in a $25 fine and additional fees for towing a vehicle.

Identical fines and fees may be levied against people who ignore special postings for snow removal after a storm.

For information about parking ban declarations, people may call Lewiston Public Works at 784-5753 or go to the city’s Web site, www.ci.lewiston.me.us.
