PORTLAND – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will provide education and support for farming families by co-sponsoring “Transferring the Farm: Minimizing the Risks Associated with Farm Business Transfer.”

The workshop will be 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Howard Johnson Hotel, on 155 Riverside St., with registration at 8 a.m.

Although the workshop is aimed at agricultural producers, many aspects are applicable to a wider audience, particularly young adults planning their future, organizers said. Multi-generational farm families particularly stand to benefit from the workshop, and are encouraged to attend together.

Participants will learn about wills, trusts, retirement and estate planning, protecting assets from taxes, legal tools and techniques available for transferring farm assets, and the development of goals for the transfer planning process.

The $15 registration fee includes lunch. For information or a registration form, people can contact Gary Anderson, at (207) 581-3240 or (800) 287-7170, or at [email protected], or contact Susie O’Keeffe, (207) 469-6465.
