WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) – The man found dead along a Waterford road on Saturday was fatally shot, the medical examiner’s office said Sunday.
An autopsy revealed the man was shot several times in the head and the death has been ruled a homicide. The victim’s identity has not been released.
A passer-by saw the man lying by the side of Doyle Road just after 12:30 a.m. and called police.
The man was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, where he was pronounced dead.
Waterford Police, the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad and the New London County State’s Attorney Office are investigating.
Police said he was carrying identification documents with several different names.
“We know the body was dumped there, and that (the victim) has no affiliation to that area,” Waterford Acting Detective Sgt. Michael Hurley told The Day of New London.
