WASHINGTON – Jason Pominville scored his first NHL goal, and Thomas Vanek and Jochen Hecht also scored to help the Buffalo Sabres stretch their unbeaten streak to six games with a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday.
Vanek scored the go-ahead goal, and Hecht added a short-handed score late in the third period.
Lightning 4, Penguins 1
TAMPA, Fla.-Fredrik Modin scored two power-play goals and John Grahame stopped 20 shots in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Rob DiMaio and Brad Richards also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Thrashers 5, Hurricanes 2
RALEIGH, N.C. – Ilya Kovalchuk had two goals and two assists, and Marian Hossa scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to lead the Atlanta Thrashers past the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2.
Marc Savard and Jean-Pierre Vigier also had goals for the Thrashers.
Ducks 3, Blackhawks 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. -Teemu Selanne and Joffrey Lupul broke open a scoreless game in the third period, lifting the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks .
Selanne put his own rebound past goalie Nikolai Khabibulin to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead with 10:31 to play.
Avalanche 6, Canucks 2
DENVER – Milan Hejduk scored 11 seconds into the game to lift Colorado to a 6-2 victory over Vancouver.
