ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A former Dover soldier has been awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in Iraq.

Lt. Col. John Steele and fellow soldiers were pinned down while heading into the Kufa in search of insurgents. He ran through a mortar attack to call for an artillery attack to destroy the enemy guns.

Steele is a graduate of Dover High School and University of New Hampshire.
