The Sun Journal editorial on Thanksgiving Day addressed the lack of congressional oversight of the executive branch. Might I also add the fact that the Supreme Court, which appointed President Bush to his first term by stopping the vote count (Which he probably won, but why take risks?) – is now set to be stacked to the political right for decades to come.

And what of the executive responsibility to rein in a “spending spree” Congress, President Bush’s veto count for five years is zero. Must be great to work with a Congress totally in line with you.

Closed-door policy meetings, deride, denounce and destroy the reputations of all dissenters. If you don’t believe as my religion, policies and actions dictate, you’re unpatriotic.

Whatever happened to the Republican Party I was proud to belong to 20 or more years ago? Where have all the “real conservatives” gone? Maybe they jumped ship as I did. We need control of our country back. As conservative as I am on some issues, there is another side that I can sometimes be persuaded to accept as better. Too bad there’s no “other side” to disagree with our present “one party” leadership.
