JAY – The Opportunity Center of North Franklin County received a grant in the amount of $3,400 from International Paper during an awards ceremony.

The Androscoggin Mill awarded the center the funds through an IP grant program to support the work of area nonprofit organizations. The funds will be used to help the Opportunity Center provide additional occupational training programs in partnership with SAD 58 Adult and Community Education.

The center, hosting training programs in nursing, masonry, General Educational Development preparation and small business development, is located at the site of the former Lauri Puzzle factory in Avon.

The center’s mission is to promote partnerships in and between business and education, to serve as a catalyst for the creation of sustainable economic opportunities and to enable residents to prosper in the community.

State Rep. and IP employee Tom Saviello sponsored the grant application and has been a champion of the center’s efforts. In addition to occupational training, the center supports small business development and the extension of social services to the communities of North Franklin County.
