RUMFORD – A Dixfield man was arrested early Tuesday morning on a charge that he threatened a Rumford man Monday night by pointing a handgun at him.

Detective Lt. Stacy Carter said Tuesday morning that Tracy R. Briggs, 39, was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony.

Briggs was released early Tuesday on $12,000 surety bail and is to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 7, 2006, in Rumford District Court.

A caller told police late Monday night that a man drove in front of a Cumberland Street resident’s apartment, pulled out a pistol, pointed it at the tenant and threatened him before driving off in a pickup truck.

Sgt. Tracey Higley and Patrolmen David Bean and Lawrence Winson searched the area in vain for the gun-wielder.

A description of the truck and suspect’s name, however, led a Dixfield officer to the pickup. Briggs was found at his home and arrested at 1:27 a.m. Tuesday after an interview, Carter said.

In other police news, four Rumford youths are to be arraigned Jan. 24, 2006, in Rumford District Court, after last week’s arrests on felony terrorizing charges.

Carter said two 14-year-old boys, a 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy reportedly threatened to harm some adults in Mexico, but police interceded the day before Thanksgiving after getting a tip.

The youths were conditionally released to their parents.
