CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – The state has concluded an Alton police officer was justified in shooting a suspect who lunged at him with two knives last week.

The attorney general’s office and state police investigated the shooting that wounded Douglas Kern, 46, on Nov. 21.

The state reports that Alton Police Capt. Charles Anderson and another officer responded to a call involving a armed man who was experiencing drug withdrawal. According to a report released Tuesday, Kern ran toward the officers, holding a knife in each hand, and threatened to kill them.

The report said Anderson shot Kern in the ankle after Kern ignored repeated orders to drop the knives and lunged at him.
