DANBURY, Conn. (AP) – A Newtown woman was sentenced Tuesday to five months in prison and five months home confinement for operating brothels she tried to pass off as health clubs.
Patricia Gougelmann, 66, also was fined $5,000, forfeited $26,800 seized by law enforcement and ordered to pay $104,000 to the government.
Gougelmann pleaded guilty in July in U.S. District Court to using an interstate facility to promote prostitution and money laundering.
The three businesses in Bridgeport, Danbury and Waterbury were registered with the state and were identified as health clubs, prosecutors said. Between January 1998 and March 2004 the businesses took in about $1.1 million in gross receipts from credit charges.
