LEWISTON – Raymond Richard Driscoll, 77, of Webster Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, after a long illness.
He was born in Portland on Feb. 14, 1928, the son of Daniel R. and Catherine (McCree) Driscoll. Ray was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1946, and also graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Bates College, 1950. He then graduated from Harvard Business School with a master’s degree in 1952.
He was a member of the National Guard and was also stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio as a first lieutenant during the Korean Conflict.
He was a marketing research director for Keyes Fibre Co. in Waterville from 1955 to 1970. From 1971 to 1974, he was president of Bowne of Boston in Massachusetts. Before retirement, he was product development director for Falcon Rule in Auburn for 17 years. He was also involved with the Androscoggin Literacy Volunteers for five years and was a dedicated teacher to non-English-speaking students.
He was an avid sports fan and had a great propensity for classical music. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, especially the camaraderie he shared with friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Driscoll of Augusta; son, Paul Driscoll and fiance, Sherry Cloutier, of Winchester, Mass.; three grandchildren, Melissa Freedman and husband, Scott, of Beverly, Mass., and Jackson and Gavin Driscoll, of Winchester, Mass.; two great-grandsons, Samuel and Josiah Freedman, of Beverly, Mass.; and his devoted, loving friend, and first wife, Beverly.
