• You’ll have to pay an extra half dollar for next year’s hunting or fishing license, Auburn City Clerk Leon H. Cole reported yesterday after receiving a large supply of the 1956 licenses.
He said single hunting licenses and single fishing licenses for 1956 will cost $2.75 each. Last year they sold for $2.25. A combination hunting-fishing license for the new year will cost $5.25, while the 1955 version went for $4.25.

Christmas morning will be a little brighter for some Lewiston-Auburn children this year thanks to the combined effort of the Salvation Army and Zayre Department Store.
Zayre and the Salvation Army are once again encouraging local people to donate unused toys to the Toys for Tots program, a program which in its 33 years of existence has supplied toys to millions of needy children.
Donald Morin, manager of the Zayre store in Lewiston, said that a large wire basket has been placed near the front entrance of the store for people to place their donations.
The Toys for Tots program was started in Los Angeles in 1947 by the Marine Corps Reserve and has grown to where last year more than 125,000 toys were donated to children across the country.
