Auburn – Members of the Bates College religion department will join Rabbi Hillel Katzir of Temple Shalom Synagogue-Center for a panel discussion about Jews and Christmas at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Temple Shalom, 74 Bradman St. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Katzir will moderate a discussion with Mishael Caspi and Thomas Tracy titled “What Jews Should Know About Christmas, Christianity and Jesus.”

Caspi, a native of Israel, specializes in biblical traditions in Judaism and Islam, Judaica and oral tradition and the oral poetry of women in the Middle East. Tracy, Phillips professor of religion, specializes in theology, philosophy of religion and applied ethics. Katzir left the practice of law in 2001 to become a full-time rabbi. He has been the spiritual leader of Temple Shalom since 2003.
