FARMINGTON – Edward Louis Simanek, 93, of Farmington, formerly of New Jersey, died Thursday morning, Dec. 1, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1912, in Hackensack, N.J., a son of Joseph and Henrietta (Roncaroni) Simanek. He attended and graduated from Hackensack, N.J., schools.

On Jan. 6, 1943, he married Anna Nulle in New Jersey.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

He later went to work for AT&T, which he did for 45 years.

He belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America and was an accomplished bowler later in life. As a younger man during the 1930s, he played baseball for the Hackensack Robins, a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, of nearly 63 years, of Farmington; a son, Edward “Ted” Simanek Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Weld; a daughter, Candace Shorr and her husband, Donald, of New Sharon; two sisters, Marie Hayden of Manasquan, N.J., and Alma Alderton of Bergenfield, N.J.; four grandchildren, Kristin and Kara Simanek of Weld, Steven Shorr and his wife, Laura, of Jay, and Jennifer Olmstead and her husband, Sam, of California; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Shorr and Tristan Olmstead.

He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
