TEMPLE – The Foothills Arts Center invites the community to a presentation of its seventh annual Theater for Peace program at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Temple Stream Theater. Ten Mt. Blue High School student actors will perform their original piece, “In Search of Me.” They will also lead the audience in a discussion of the issues raised.

The piece is a thought-provoking work presented with the use of comedy and wit. The actors will explore several issues that are of particular concern to people their age: identity, divorce, drug abuse and prejudice. The performance and discussion are suitable for adults and students ages 12 and up.

The Theater for Peace troupe also will present the piece and discussions in classrooms at Mt. Blue, Jay and Livermore Falls middle schools. Following the presentations, classroom teachers will tie the material to elements of their curriculum through writing exercises and other assignments.

Theater for Peace is coordinated by Foothills Arts Center Director Anne Geller and is directed by actor and playwright Jeri Pitcher of Readfield. Pitcher guides the actors and their audiences in a search for concrete and pro-active solutions to situations that break the peace in lives.

Admission to the performance is by donation; a suggested amount is $6 for adults. In case of bad weather, the performance will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10. For more information, contact Geller at 778-0448 or info@foothillsarts.org.
