LEWISTON – Murielle L. Laverdiere, 68, of 29 Union St., Lewiston, died Thursday evening, Dec. 1, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by her loving family, following a long illness.

She was born in Lewiston on Jan. 13, 1937, the daughter of Aime and Rachel (Deslauriers) Mercier and had been a resident of this community all of her life.

She was educated at St. Peter’s School and was a graduate of St. Dominic’s Regional High School Class of 1954.

She and her husband Raymond owned and operated Able Power Rooter for many years. She also taught adult swimming lessons at the YWCA in Lewiston for 25 years.

Murielle was an active member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and the Sabattus Senior Citizens. She loved swimming and reading. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Laverdiere, whom she married on June 8, 1957, of Lewiston; one daughter, Anita Richards and her husband, Timothy, of Auburn; three sons, Ronald Laverdiere of Lewiston, Richard Laverdiere and his wife, Kelly, of Lewiston, and Roland Laverdiere and his wife, Kimberly, of Greene; two sisters, Aurore Boulette of Lewiston and Pauline Bourgoin and her husband, Joseph, of Sabattus; one brother, Antonin Mercier and his wife, Grace, of Greene; five grandchildren, Melissa Leavitt and her husband, Jamison, of Minot, Ryan Richards and his wife, Mihoko, of Lewiston, Lysa Laverdiere of Lewiston and Riley and Lotus Laverdiere of Greene; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, Laurent Mercier.
