PORTLAND (AP) – One of Portland’s high schools closed Friday because of an Internet threat while the other high school was disrupted by a bomb threat, police said.

Administrators decided to close Portland High School for the day because of an alleged threat made by a student on the Internet, said Dana Allen of the Portland School Department.

Administrators were notified at 5:30 a.m. and had to make a quick decision after learning that a student had allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the high school. “We think at this point in time that we’re correct in saying it’s not a credible threat,” Allen said.

Deering High School, meanwhile, was evacuated because of a bomb threat. Students were allowed back into the school after it was searched by a bomb-sniffing dog.

Police said the two incidents appeared to be unrelated.
