LIVERMORE FALLS – SAD 36 and Jay Adult and Community Education has partnered with Riverside Therapeutic Massage to offer a 10-month massage therapy school.

Carrie Castonguay, director of Adult Education, and Sharon Kennedy, licensed massage therapist, are offering the program and participants completing it will have licensure to practice massage therapy.

The course consists of more than 500 hours of training, both hands-on practice and class time. Classes will be held two days a week at the Adult Learning Center. In addition, there will be a third day of instruction, a bodywork day where students will do hands-on exercises. Clinical time will be at Riverside Therapeutic Massage in Canton.

The intensive program will also offer a Reiki practitioner program, which will be open to community members wishing to only participate in that portion of the program.

Reiki classes will start on June 5 and run for 12 weeks with Rhonda Ouellette facilitating. She is a Reiki master and, in addition to having her own practice, teaches at the Central Maine School of Massage.

Kennedy has received state approval from the Department of Education for the course. Castonguay has also listed the course with the Department of Labor as a training program.

All class work will be awarded continuing education credits for further education. Class size is limited to 10. Those who are interested should call the Adult Learning Center at 897-6384 or Sharon at 597-2426.
