By vote of nine to three, the Lewiston School Board last night, decided that dancing shall not be allowed at the high school assemblies. In so doing a question of no little importance to the school children, and their parents and the citizens of this community, has been settled for the time being, at least. A petition to allow dancing a the high school assemblies was circulated among the parents and friends of many of the high school students several days ago and was signed by nearly two hundred people, including some of Lewiston’s most prominent citizens.

BIENNE, Switzerland – Maurice Vaucher, president of the Swiss Federation of Watchmakers, said today the U.S. Department of Justice is seeking to paralyze the Swiss watch industry until it surrenders its know-how to American competitors.
Vaucher, commenting on a U.S. Justice Department antitrust action against importers of watch-making machinery, said the action showed, “There is evidently no limit to the stubborn ingenuity of the present American administration’s destructive effort to eliminate the Swiss jeweled watch as a competitive product on the American market.”

The Horace Munroe House on Pleasant Street in Auburn has been entered on the National Register of Historic Places, according to Earle G. Shettleworth Jr., director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, whose staff prepared the nomination.
