I have been to meetings in Auburn about the tax issue, and the meeting on Nov. 21 was a lot of the same. The mayor and half of the city council did not listen to the taxpayers of Auburn.
At the first meeting in New Auburn, the mayor came inside the Legion Hall and said there were citizens outside that wanted to hear what was going on, so the meeting was moved outside. He also said he wanted to hear what the taxpayers of Auburn had to say.
It was very loud and clear that night what the taxpayers of Auburn wanted: no parking garage.
Did the mayor listen? Yes, he did. Did it matter what the taxpayers said? No, it did not.
Is it time for a new mayor? Yes, it is, along with a new city manager and city council.
Does the mayor care about the taxes we will pay next year? Of course not. He won’t be mayor and will be living in Florida.
The parking garage is only one of the ways our elected officials are spending our tax dollars. How the city manager, mayor and city council spend our tax dollars is what has gotten the city into the mess it is in.
