NORWAY – Sylvia Arlene Niemi, 73, of South Paris, died Sunday, Dec. 4, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Norway on Aug. 15, 1932, to Raymond and Irene (Witham) Winslow.

She married Ralph Niemi on June 18, 1955.

She taught school for more than 26 years, starting at Oxford High School, then at Buckfield High School and later at Oxford Hills High School.

She was a member of the First Universalist Unitarian Church in South Paris, Retired Teachers Association, TOPS, Quilters Club, Curves and the Good Cheer Society. She sang in the church choir, volunteered at Rowe School and enjoyed line dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Niemi of South Paris, with whom she just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary; a son, Michael and his wife, Nancy, of Norway; two daughters, Roxanne Cyr and husband, Mark, of Otisfield, and Alison Murch of Waterford; two brothers, Edward and Jean Winslow of Webster, N.Y., and Stuart and Nancy Winslow of North Norway; six grandchildren, Raymond, Elizabeth, Justin, Courtney, Miranda and Nicholas; two nieces, Karen and Graham Holroyd and family, and Kathy and Mark Lawrence and family; and two nephews, Brian and Amy Winslow and family, and Doug and Terri Winslow and family.
