Navy Seaman Recruit Seth G. Rivard, son of Elaine M. and Gilbert S. Rivard of Lewiston, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Rivard completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Rivard is a 2003 graduate of Edward Little High School of Auburn.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jamie P. Martin, son of Sandra A. Pelletier of Monmouth and Peter P. Martin of St. Augustine, Fla., also completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Martin is a 2003 graduate of Cony High School of Augusta.
