SALEM, Mass. (AP) – One man was killed and another hospitalized with a head wound after a double shooting here Monday that police described as a failed murder-suicide.
Officers responded to 911 calls at 8:37 a.m. about a shooting on Jefferson Avenue, Salem police spokesman Capt. John Jodoin said.
Police allege Armando Pereira, 55, shot and killed his estranged wife’s boyfriend, then turned the gun on himself.
Frederick Keough, 43, who suffered fatal wounds to his head and groin, was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.
Pereira was taken to a Boston hospital in critical condition.
According to the Essex District Attorney’s office, Keough was dating Pereira’s estranged wife, who was in the process of divorcing him. Pereira and his wife had been separated for about a year.
