Rotary speakers

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Ramada Inn. Members will learn more about the Maine Department of Health and Human Services from Jack Nicolas and Cheryl Ring. Anyone wishing to attend to hear the speaker or learn more about Rotary is welcome. Luncheons are $8 a person.

Annual show

POWNAL – Bradbury Mountain Arts seventh annual show and sale will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Mallett Hall, 429 Hallowell Road.

The guild of 15 artists will sell wood turning, paintings, weaving and textiles, gemstone jewelry, sailcloth totes, ceramics, sculpture, photography, pottery, etchings and wreaths and greenerys.

The artists featured are Peter Asselyn, John Bowdren, Nancy Greenleaf, Kathy and Erin Hogue, Liza Nichols, Jeff Raymond, Luther Snow, Lois Strickland, Sharon Townshend, Andrea and Jan Pieter van Voorst van Beest, Helen Warren and guest artist, Robert Lash.

Deck the Stalls’

BOWDOIN – A “Deck the Stalls” free holiday open house will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Triple J Farm, home of healing horses.

Those attending can vote for the best decorated stall, make an ornament and meet Santa. There will be snacks. For more information, call 666-3097.

Holiday concert

NEW GLOUCESTER – First Congregational-Christian Church of New Gloucester (United Church of Christ) will hold the annual community Christmas concert, “The Music of Christmas,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. Special guest artists will be the Southern Maine brass quintet, Norumbega Ensemble.

In addition, the event will feature music of the season by all the choirs of the church, including the adult choir, two children’s choirs, God’s Little Voices and the Junior Choir, plus the new Chime Choir.

Rusty Beckett, Linda Gard and Dan Bastian will assist in instrumental accompaniment. Steve Jones and Carolyn and John Murphy will be soloists.

The choirs are under the direction of and accompanied by Beth Barefoot-Jones, minister of music. Linda Gard is pastor. A free will offering will be taken. Refreshments will be served after at the church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road. For more information, call the church office at 926-3260.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 5 were: first, Mary Leahey and Roger Briggs; second, Renette and Joe Reinhardt; third, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; fourth, second in B, Cynthia Bonsey and Helen Little; fifth, third in B, first in C, Claire Tewhey and Charles Bartlett; second in C, Jeanne Plourde and Joan Bergeron.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for more information.
