CONWAY, N.H. (AP) – A man has been charged with cruelty to animals after allegedly fatally shooting his neighbor’s dog with a pellet gun when it wandered onto his yard.

Police said Adam Chase, 19, of North Conway, faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. The neighbor, Alvar Nelson, said he was walking last week with Tucker, his 10-year-old White Shepherd, when the dog ran ahead of him.

He said the dog was shot at close range with a pellet gun.
