CAMDEN (AP) – An investigation was under way Thursday to determine the identity of a young man whose body was found on a beach off Sherman Point Road.

The body was found Wednesday afternoon by residents who lived near the beach, said Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland.

The man had probably been dead for a few weeks, police said. An autopsy was being performed today at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta.

The body is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. The man had blond hair and a mustache and beard, and is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

Police are reviewing missing person reports as part of their investigation.
