TURNER – Lewiston wore down the Hornets with hot shooting from the perimeter, connecting on eight 3-pointers as the Blue Devils defeated Leavitt 62-51 to open the season.

Jared Turcotte dropped in 21 points, including three buckets from beyond the arc, to lead all scorers for Lewiston (1-0). Joe Stachowiak added 17 points.

Chris Crosby netted 17 points for the Hornets (0-1) and pulled down nine rebounds. Eric Berry scored 10 points, and Cam Angell added nine points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Boothbay 72, Telstar 51

BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Kris Noonan scored a stunning 30 points and had a double-double with 13 rebounds to lead Boothbay to a 72-51 victory over Telstar in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Roy Arsenault shadowed Noonan with a double-double as well, connecting for six field goals and collecting 12 rebounds for the Seahawks (1-0).

The Rebels (0-1) received an outstanding performance from Sean Caddigan, who tallied 28 points on nine field goals and seven free throws, including three 3-pointers.

Falmouth 58, Poland 46

POLAND – Bryant Barr knocked down seven shots, including three treys, and picked up 12 points at the foul line for a total of 29 points as Falmouth defeated Poland, 58-46. Ryan Gibson chipped in with 14 points for Falmouth (1-0).

Keegan Fennessy lead the Knights (0-1) with 13 points, and Tyler Merchant added nine points and five rebounds. John Lecznar pulled down 11 rebounds to go with four points and three assists.

Georges Valley 46, Mt. Abram 42

SALEM – Nate Frisbie scored 11 points to lead Georges Valley to a 46-42 triumph over Mt. Abram in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Rebels (0-1) had built a 33-26 lead at the end of three quarters, but the Buccaneers (1-0) went on a 20-9 fourth-quarter run to secure the season opener.

Jordan Norton scored a team-high 11 points for Mt. Abram, recording two field goals and seven points from the line.

Cape Elizabeth 73, Gray-NG 49

GRAY – Liam O’Shea scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers in the second half, to pace Cape Elizabeth past Gray-New Gloucester, 73-49.

Joe Geoghegan added 13 points and Shaine Burks had 12 for the Capers.

Tyler Blanchard had 19 points to lead the Patriots, and Jordan Hebert chipped in with 13.

Hall-Dale 58, Jay 51

JAY – Shane Abbott poured in 18 points as Hall-Dale pulled away from Jay 58-51 in a closely contested matchup.

Jay Skillings and Eric Gagne each netted 12 points for the winning Bulldogs.

Brad Loon scored 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, and Brandon Demillo added 15 points for the Tigers.

Maranacook 73, Med. Valley 59

READFIELD – Ryan Martin poured in a game-high 21 points and had four assists to carry Maranacook to a 73-59 victory over Medomak Valley.

Bryce Spaulding chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds for Maranacook (1-0).

Medomak Valley was led by Stephen Bener and Matt Mackenzie, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Dirigo 65, Monmouth 28

DIXFIELD – Colby Knapp scored a game-high 14 points and Chris Richards tallied 13 to carry Dirigo to a 65-28 victory over Monmouth in a varsity boys’ basketball contest.

Mike Holmquist added 10 points for the Cougars (1-0). Dirigo took control early with a 21-3 lead after the first quarter.

Scott Ogden was the leading scorer for Monmouth with seven points.

Hockey
Hebron 11, NYA 2

NORTH YARMOUTH – Jordan Krusch scored four goals and Matt Pedemonti notched a hat trick to go along with three assists, as Hebron pounded North Yarmouth 11-2 in prep school hockey action.

Kyle Tobin netted a pair of goals, with Ben Hall and Sasha Romanenko rounding out the scoring for Hebron (6-3).

The Panthers scored twice in the first period, as Daniel Dearing and Mikko Peltomaki each found the back of the net off feeds from Jesse Ostring.

Mike McDougal made 10 saves for Hebron, while his counterpart James Spilsbury stopped 30 of the 41 shots that he faced in the game.

Messalonskee 5, Edward Little 2

AUBURN – Ted Fabian scored a pair of goals and added two assists as Messalonskee opened the season with a 5-2 victory over Edward Little.

Fabian scored the first goal of the game on a feed from Bryant Kingsbury, and then set up both of Matt Deguidice’s goals in the second period to open up a 3-0 lead. Fabian added an insurance goal in the third.

Kevin Smith and Matt Morin each scored for the Red Eddies (0-1).

Poland/Gray-NG 14, Massabesic 1

HEBRON – Dylan Michaud netted two goals and dished out four assists as Poland/Gray-New Gloucester rolled over Massabesic 14-1 in varsity hockey action.

Ryan Gilbert, Patrick Collins, and Corey Cormier each notched hat tricks in the game, and Ben Piper added two goals. Sean Bilodeau made 11 saves.

Dominic Parent scored the lone goal of the game for Massabesic.

Win-Dale 3, Yarmouth 2 (OT)

YARMOUTH – J.P. Carey sent a slapshot sailing toward the top right-corner of the net which deflected off the glove of the goalie and into the cage for the game winner at 6:28 in overtime to give Win-Dale a 3-2 victory over Yarmouth in the season opener.

Kyle Bennett recorded the first and third goals of the contest, giving the Clippers (0-1) a one-goal lead on each occasion.

The Icedogs (1-0) pulled their goalie late in the third period for a 6-on-5 matchup. Sam Frost made excellent use of the opportunity, delivering the game-tying goal on a deflection off the goalie to send the game into overtime.
