NORTH ANSON – Emilie Knight opened the season with a 30-point effort to lead Winthrop past Carrabec 77-37.
Knight, who hit 13 shots from the floor and added five points at the charity stripee, hauled down 17 rebounds. Amanda Garwood chipped in with 16 points, and Katie Pushard added 15 for the Ramblers (1-0), who pulled away early to open up a 28-8 lead in the first quarter.
Tiffany Gurney had 10 points to go with five steals for the Cobras (0-1), and Kristina Earle added seven points and eight rebounds.
Falmouth 46, Poland 23
FALMOUTH – Bethany Graffam scored a game-high 18 points to carry Falmouth to a 46-23 victory over Poland in the season opener for both teams.
Falmouth played great defense, holding Poland to just nine points at halftime.
Poland was led by Paige Piper who drained a team-high 13 points.
St. Dom’s 24, NYA 21
NORTH YARMOUTH – The Saints overcame a scoreless first quarter and came back to edge North Yarmouth Academy 24-21 in a defensive battle.
Mary Lewis and Julie Vandermeulen each scored eight points to lead St. Dom’s (1-0), which trailed 5-0 after the first quarter but evened the score at 6-6 by the half.
Katie Landry chipped in with three points for the Saints.
Erin Lachance led all scorers with 11 points for North Yarmouth (0-1), including three from beyond the arc. Brook Rayder added four points, and Emily Staszak added three more.
Kents Hill 43, Seacoast Christian 26
WELLS – Aleigh Mills drained a game-high 22 points and pulled down 16 boards in three quarters to carry Kents Hill to a 43-26 victory over Seacoast Christian in a varsity girls basketball contest Saturday.
Kents Hill’s defense produced 19 steals, six of which came from Emelda Ogweta. Lilianne Pettengill also chipped in with 15 points for Kents Hill (1-0).
Liz Trafton did all she could to help Seacoast Christian with a team-high 18 points.
Hall-Dale 56, Jay 53
FARMINGDALE – Caitlyn Laflin poured in 20 points to pace Hall-Dale to a narrow 56-53 triumph over Jay in the season opener for both teams.
Chelsey Dionne added 16 points for the Bulldogs, and Katie Frett put in a six-point, six-rebound, and six-steal effort to help seal the win.
Kaylie DeMillo’s game-high 28 points, including five buckets from behind the 3-point line, weren’t enough for the Tigers. Liz Leblanc added 10 points, and Katie Mastine chipped in with nine points for Jay.
Telstar 54, Boothbay 51
BETHEL – Kelsey Dole dropped 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to carry Telstar to a 54-51 triumph over Boothbay in a girls varsity basketball matchup Staurday.
Bailey Davis had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Telstar.
Boothbay’s Ali Hartley and Joyce Chagan combined for 38 points, with 21 and 17, respectivley.
Mt. Abram 58, Georges Valley 38
THOMASTON – Logahn Walker scored a game-high 20 points, including three buckets from beyond the arc, as Mt. Abram downed Georges Valley, 58-38.
The junior point guard also dished out seven assists, pulled down four rebounds, and had four steals in the game. Brittany York added 12 points for the Roadrunners.
Ashley Geel netted 13 points to lead Georges Valley, and Mallory Miller chipped in with 10 points.
Gr. Portland Christian 29, Hebron 20
HEBRON – Kelsey Garborough scored 10 points as Greater Portland Christian defeated Hebron 29-20 in prep school action.
Sara Powers led Hebron (0-1) with six points.
Oxford Hills 52, Mt. Ararat 49
SOUTH PARIS – Kristina Bowden notched a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds to lead Oxford Hills to a 52-49 win over Mt. Ararat in girls’ basketball action Saturday.
Junior Terri Bunce scored a team-high 16 points for the Vikings (1-0), while sophomore Kari Pelletier pitched in with 11 points.
Jess Stahl led all scorers with 22 points for the Eagles (0-1). Kelsi Eiane contributed six field goals, including a pair of three-pointers, and two free throws for 16 points in Mt. Ararat’s losing effort.
Madison 75, Wiscasset 31
MADISON – Madison got things going its way early, outscoring Wiscasset 31-5 in the first quarter, and never looked back to post a 75-31 victory over Wiscasset.
Margo Russell tallied a game-high 22 points, while Danielle Hebert added 16 for Madison. Madison’s Lacey Ashbrook scored 10 points had nine rebounds with five assists.
Sarah Pierce led Wiscasset with 10 points.
Livermore Falls 66, Lisbon 45
LIVERMORE FALLS – Taryn Flagg poured in a game-high 21 points to lead Livermore Falls to a 66-45 victory over Lisbon in a girls varsity basketball matchup Saturday.
The Andies enjoyed a great start, sprinting out to a 25-6 advantage after the first quarter. Jenika Kelley chipped in with 14 for the Andies (1-0).
Mindy Sullivan led all Lisbon scorers with 14 points.
Mt. Blue 66, Hampden 35
FARMINGTON – Christina Mosher pulled down 10 rebounds to go with her 21 points and four assists as Mt. Blue ran away from Hampden, 66-35.
Bonnie Silkman added 11 points, and Amanda Laney chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for the Cougars (1-0).
Lindsey Martin and Nori Francis-Mezzer each had eight points to lead Hampden (0-1).
Rockland 67, Oak Hill 26
WALES – Caitline Hynes dropped in 15 points and Dana Clark added 14 as Rockland started the game with a 10-0 run and continued on to a 67-26 victory over Oak Hill.
Katelyn Wells had nine points and Kristen Eaton scored eight points for the Raiders (0-1).
Hockey
Hebron 4, Gunnery 2
HEBRON – Steph Roy scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner in the second period as Hebron doubled up Gunnery 4-2 in prep school girls’ hockey action Saturday.
Nikki Dube got Hebron (3-1-1) on the board early in the first, and Tiffany Bichrest’s goal at 7:47 made it a 2-0 game to end the period.
Sarah McCary and Kate O’Connor scored for Gunnery (3-1).
Jill MacIsaac stopped 13 shots in the Hebron net. Alli Zukhult made 15 saves for Gunnery.
