FARMINGTON – Winnifred E. Rose, 88, of School Street, Canton, died unexpectedly, Saturday, Dec. 10, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Canton, the daughter of Winfield S. and Bertha A. (Reed) Rose. Winnifred was a 1935 graduate of Canton High School. She enrolled in the nursing program at Maine General Hospital, now known as Maine Medical Center, in Portland, graduating in 1938.

She worked as a registered nurse at Maine Medical Center and later became supervisor of nursing, retiring in 1975 after 36 years of service.

In 1978, she moved back to her hometown of Canton. She was a member of the Canton Senior Citizens, Canton Historical Society and the Canton Alumni Association.

She is survived by a brother, Shirley F. Rose of Canton; a sister, Helen A. Clinton of Canton; and her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Reginald and Clifford Rose; and a sister, Pauline Therrien.
