TURNER – Arthur Edwin Kangas, 69, of Sumner, died as the result of an automobile accident in Turner on Dec. 11.

He was born in West Paris on Dec. 21, 1935, the son of Eino and Lena (Yates) Kangas. He was educated in local schools and worked at local lumberyards prior to his retirement.

He was an Army veteran, having served his country from 1958 to 1960. He was very active in Granite Lodge 182 AF & AM of West Paris and the Mountain View Chapter 197 O.E.S. of Buckfield. He loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile and go camping in Bar Harbor.

He is survived by his mother, Lena Ellen Kangas of South Paris; wife, Louise, of Sumner; one son, Brian Kangas and his wife, Susan, of Sumner; three daughters, Julie Toothaker of West Paris, Lisa Ackley of Sumner, and Holly Roberts and her husband, Mike, of South Paris; one brother, Richard Kangas and his wife, Louise, of Bryant Pond; one sister, Sandra Weitzel and her husband, Don, of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Debra Kangas of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Samuel Ackley of Buckfield, Juanita Toothaker of South Paris, Crystal Toothaker of West Paris, Mark Huston of South Paris, Ryley Kangas of Sumner and Lindsey Roberts of South Paris; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Page Coffin of South Paris; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father; and one brother, Leland Kangas.
