Yesterday Nellie E. Harmon sold her property located at 36 Blake street, Lewiston, to James Thornton for $1,500, and other valuable consideration. Mr. Thornton, who is employed by this city, will take possession of his property at once. Mrs. Harmon is already making preparations to move to Old Orchard Beach, where she will go into business another season. This property is located in a growing section of the city, and the buildings are in good repair.

Lewiston-Auburn postal workers had a good workout yesterday as citizens filled the two post offices with more than 112,000 greeting cards and letters, plus hundreds of parcel post packages. It marked the busiest single day of the 1955 Yuletide mailing season but the days just ahead will be even busier for the men in gray.

Maine has large areas of peat bogs, but the use of peat as fuel has been minor. Now, a New Hampshire firm is undertaking the most ambitious plan ever to mine the peat and make it a major source of energy for the state.
Wheelabrator-Frye Inc. has received a $3.5 million grant from the Federal Department of Energy to find a suitable site in Maine for a plant to produce peat pellets. Envisioned is a $40 million to $60 million plant capable of producing 330,000 tons of peat pellets a year.
That would be enough to heat 20 percent of all of the homes in Maine.
