ROXBURY – Work continues on the new municipal building off Route 17, Board of Selectmen Chairman Alan Hodgkins said at Monday night’s meeting.

Hodgkins said he’s been working with the contractor for the past two weeks, helping with a floor plan to build a wall that ties together the new town office wall with the fire department wall.

Last summer, the dilapidated former Northwest Precision Co. building on Route 17, where the new municipal office is to be built, was demolished. A connecting garage, which is to become Roxbury’s new fire station, was left standing.

Hodgkins said the contractor started work on an outside wall Monday. Several trusses have been ordered and are expected to arrive in two weeks.

He said the town only has enough money in its budget to have a shell erected for the 30- by 60-foot building.

When asked by new Fire Chief James Theriault if Roxbury’s new fire truck, which is still being assembled, would fit through the current department door in the garage, Hodgkins said no.

The town would have to get a new door, which would cost between $2,700 and $2,800, he said.

In other news, Theriault said about seven Roxbury firefighters responded to a mutual-aid call early Sunday night for a structure fire in Dixfield on Common Road.

“So, we are moving forward,” Theriault said regarding the department’s status, the existence of which has wavered this year.
