DURHAM – Several gallons of diesel fuel, as well as antifreeze and oil spilled on Swamp Road when a car collided with a dump truck Thursday morning.

Androscoggin County Deputy Sheriff Brian Smith identified the driver of the car as Suzanne Blais, 27, of Durham. Blais complained of back and neck pain and was transported by Durham Fire and Rescue to Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick, Smith said.

The driver of the truck, Scott Fraser, 49, of Brunswick, escaped apparent injury.

According to Deputy Smith, Fraser was backing into a driveway to deliver a load of dirt, and Blais’ vehicle hit the side of the truck. The angle of the bright sun was believed to have been a major factor, he noted.

Larrabee Construction provided gravel to soak up some of the fluids, Durham Fire Chief Bill St. Michel said. Personnel from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection supervised the cleanup.

Blais’ 2001 Volkswagen 4-door was demolished and damage to Fraser’s 1989 Ford dump truck was estimated at $1,500 in the 8:15 a.m. crash.
