FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 met Dec. 1 at the Elks Lodge in West Farmington. An initiation was held bringing a new member, Crystal Lloyd, in the club. There were 43 members present, 63 absent and one new member for a total count of 107.

President Quinnale Kinsey called the meeting to order, and Americanism Woman Nancy Chase read a poem.

Community Service Chairwoman Claudette Merchant gave a report on the Thanksgiving dinner held for residents of local nursing homes and the Pierce House. A total of 80 residents, caregivers and guests attended.

Sue Mattice, in charge of Ablused Women’s Advocacy Project, asked members to join her at 9 a.m. the following Monday to shop for gifts for two families.

Debbie Holt reported on the Emblem Club craft fair held in November. She asked members to bring in baked items and crafts for the craft fair held on Dec. 3.

Shannon Smith spoke of the Emblem-sponsored Valentine dance on Feb. 12 at the Elks Lodge. She asked members for help in decorating the Emblem Christmas tree to be raffled off by the Rotary Club on Dec. 3. She also reported on the successful Elks and Emblem variety show held in November.

Smith enlisted volunteers to help at the Turner Christmas party for foster children on Dec. 10. It was noted that this was a favorite project of deceased past president, Barbara Hinkley.

Cheryl Deshaies won the raffle of the quilt made by member Christine Greenleaf. The mystery gift was also won by Deshaies, the 50-50 raffle by Greenleaf and the pot of gold by Connie Reynolds.

Donations will be made to the Academy Hill School’s Girls Talk, to benefit a supper for two ill children; to Franklin Memorial Hospital’s project of stuffed animals giving to children needing X-rays and to a family from Jay, now living in Winslow, who lost everything in a home fire.

Desserts were served after the meeting and Christmas gifts were exchanged by members.
