AUGUSTA – A state agency investigating legislative candidates’ use of taxpayer money postponed its regular meeting Friday because one of the people in its probe is stuck in Florida.

The agency’s staff had recommended that Daniel Rogers of Lewiston be fined $12,500 for his part in campaign activities involving public money.

Rogers said he couldn’t return to Maine due to forecasts of mixed snow and sleet along the eastern seaboard.

The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices is expected to reschedule its meeting for early January.

Workers at the agency issued a report last week proposing the four people targeted by the investigation pay a total of more than $30,000 in fines. It also said one of the candidates should repay the state $11,088.15 of the public money she received.
