MIAMI – For the second time in three games, quarterback Sage Rosenfels came off the bench, and the Miami Dolphins came from behind to win.

Replacing an injured Gus Frerotte to start the second half, Rosenfels threw a 50-yard completion for the go-ahead touchdown, and the Dolphins earned their fourth win in a row by beating the New York Jets 24-20.

The injury-plagued Jets (3-11), playing their final away game, finished 0-8 on the road for the first time. The only other time they went winless on the road was in 1964, when they were 0-7.

Miami (7-7) beat New York for the first time in the last four meetings. The Dolphins, eliminated from the division race Saturday when New England clinched the AFC East, kept their faint wild-card playoff hopes alive. After Frerotte was sidelined by an injury to the index finger on his throwing hand, Rosenfels helped Miami overcome a 17-10 fourth-quarter deficit with touchdowns on consecutive possessions.

In his last appearance two weeks ago, Rosenfels came off the bench and rallied Miami from a 20-point deficit in the final 12 minutes to beat Buffalo.

The Jets, who came into the game last in the NFL in points, scored 17 in a row after falling behind 10-0. And they tried to rally in the final moments, moving to the Miami 14-yard line before Brooks Bollinger threw four consecutive incompletions.

Bollinger finished 28-for-42 for 327 yards and two touchdowns. But he was sacked six times, and the Jets lost three fumbles and botched a short field goal attempt.

Rosenfels went 6-for-13 for 99 yards.

The Jets took their only lead with their longest gain of the season. On the first play following a punt, Bollinger threw deep to Doug Jolley, who got behind safety Lance Schulters for a 60-yard score. It was Bollinger’s longest completion, and Jolley’s first touchdown this season.

With the Dolphins trailing 17-10, Rosenfels moved them 61 yards for the tying touchdown, which came on Ricky Williams’ 23-yard run.

Miami forced a punt and quickly struck again when Marty Booker beat safety Kerry Rhodes deep to catch a 50-yarder with 11 minutes left to make it 24-17.

Mike Nugent kicked a pair of 42-yard field goals for the Jets. But when he lined up for a 20-yard attempt with the Jets trailing 7-0, holder Ben Graham was unable to handle a low snap, and Miami’s Yeremiah Bell recovered. Nugent grabbed Bell’s leg and made the tackle, perhaps preventing an 88-yard touchdown return.

Miami scored first when Frerotte hit Chris Chambers with an 8-yard touchdown pass. The completion was one of three third-down conversions in a 13-play drive.

A disputed third-down penalty on the Jets’ Jonathan Vilma for roughing the passer started a 52-yard Miami drive that led to a field goal for a 10-0 lead.

The Jets’ comeback began when Bollinger hit Justin McCareins with a 45-yard completion. That set up Laveranues Coles’ 4-yard touchdown catch on third down.

A Jets interception in the final minute of the first half led to Nugent’s game-tying field goal. Bryan Gilmore dropped a pass and New York’s David Barrett came up with the deflection at the Jets 40. Frerotte was hurt on the play.

Miami linebacker Channing Crowder also left the game in the first half with a shoulder injury. Running backs Williams and Ronnie Brown went to the sideline in the first half with injuries but returned.
