TURNER – A group of police officers and college students are conducting a survey to pinpoint the biggest concerns about public safety and crime in Turner.
On Sunday, several students from Andover College began going door-to-door to hand out copies of a two-page survey. Area churches and businesses have also agreed to help distribute the questionnaires.
Those being surveyed are asked to answer a range of questions and to rate how safe they feel in their communities. They are also asked whether they believe crime is better or worse than it was five years ago and whether they are comfortable with the level of police coverage.
In all, the survey contains 15 questions. It was developed by students in the college’s criminal justice program and officers from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police.
Organizers of the survey will prepare a written report on the results and present it to Turner town representatives.
