LIMINGTON – A 19-year-old Cornish man has been charged with impersonating a police officer after he reportedly flashed a blue light on his vehicle’s roof to pull over a female driver.

Lt. Gary Fecteau of the York County Sheriff’s Office said Monday police served Mitchell Brown with a court summons at his home Friday night.

The driver did not stop her car. And she managed to record the license plate of the suspicious vehicle, which was later linked to Brown, according to a police report.

The incident took place earlier this month on Route 25 in Limington, just over the Standish border, Fecteau said.

According to the York County dispatch center, the woman called 911 after she noticed the man flashing the light at her around 11 p.m.

There have been two reports in Bridgton and Waterford in the past 18 months of a man pulling over female drivers while pretending to be a police officer, but Brown is not suspected in these cases, according to police.

In both of the earlier incidents, the man retreated to his car after the women asked for identification.

Fecteau said it is easy to acquire blue lights. “You can buy those at a novelty store,” he said Monday.
