RUMFORD – The Mountain Valley Sports Boosters and the Rumford Area Rotary Club announced Tuesday that the MV/Matt Gaudet Alumni Basketball Day scheduled for Friday has been canceled.

The event was to take place on a Friday this year instead of the usual Saturday, due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays being on Sunday, which initially created a lower response from alumni and volunteers.

Also, because the MVHS gym floor needs to be refinished during the holiday break and the middle school court doesn’t have enough seating for the event, there is no adequate venue available, according to organizers.

Plans are already in the works for next year’s event, which will take place on the Saturday after Christmas.
