We all have those certain special events in school that we look forward to each year. For some it’s Homecoming, for others it’s the Semi formal. For you it may just be a vacation away from school. I went around school asking our students just what they look forward to the most, and found that an overwhelming amount of students favored Winter Carnival as being their most awaited event in the LAHS school year.
When asked, senior Todd Berube stated that winter carnival was his favorite event “because you get bragging rights over the who’s the best class, 06!” Junior, Lindsey Pelletier says that she likes Winter Carnival as well, “I like trying to win, even though we haven’t YET.”
Many students like the competition that Winter Carnival brings, and others just love the chaos. Derek Bowen, junior, favors winter carnival above all the rest because “You don’t have to worry about homework and all that stuff, and it’s not stressful.” Matt Nash agreed with him as well, “We get out of classes and it’s fun,” he replied.
There are many aspects of Winter Carnival that students could enjoy, the events, the pep rallies, and of course, the main finale, air band. Jennifer Berry loves air band the most out of all of winter carnival, “Just because it’s fun.” I would have to say that I agree with her.
As for some of the other choices people chose, Homecoming was one of them. Senior, Tyler Angell, awaits the football homecoming, “because everyone, including the alumni come and watch us play.”
Homecoming is similar to Winter Carnival, but without so much class on class competition. It’s mainly a big sporting event, with fundraisers and booths for class funds. There is of course the float competition, which the seniors took this year. Teacher Mrs. Dorian loves homecoming. “I love the floats and seeing all the kids who worked hard, and the high spirits. Anytime the alumni come it’s a good thing.”
Other than Homecoming the only other choice that I found was graduation. When asked, senior Frank Mikusevich, stated “Graduation, because it represents the end of my high school career.” There are a variety of events that go on here at LAHS, and you the students have chosen Winter Carnival to be your favorite.
