Recovering from a 1-11-2 record last year, Lisbon men’s soccer team got a jump-start to a new season. They started out by doing fundraising at local events, raising money to buy warm suits. Also, summer soccer started and kept them busy. The Greyhounds had an outstanding pre-season, going 5-0-3. After a slow start to the regular season, 1-2-1 in their first four games they stepped it up, going 6-1 in the next seven games. Out of those seven games, four were shut-outs. Lisbon finished sixth in the heal points, going 8-5-1. In the quarter-finals the Greyhounds were matched up with third Maranacook. Both teams deadlocked after the first half. Lisbon held its ground and scored in the first over-time. They went on to face Yarmouth in the semi-finals and lost.
Overall, the season was a huge upgrade from the previous season. Coach Scott Barden picked up his first playoff win as head coach, and also received Coach of the Year honors. Another outstanding achievement was the fact that Lisbon had three All-Star selections. Captain’s Mike Wilkins (goalie) and Nate Osmond were selected first team, while Evan Manacol received second team. Looking ahead to next year, Lisbon has many starters returning, as well as a seasoned group of under classmen.
