MEXICO – Following a closed session Tuesday night, the Region 9 board authorized Director David Driscoll to spend up to $1,000 for an appraisal of about six acres surrounding the River Road school.

Driscoll said on Wednesday that the appraisal will likely be completed within a few weeks.

The action is needed as part of the vocational school’s goal for a major renovation and addition on the existing structure. The surrounding land is owned by the Archibald family, from whom Region 9 bought the existing school building several years ago.

Funds for purchasing the land are included in the estimate for a $7.3 million school-expansion project. A referendum on whether to approve the expansion is expected to be scheduled in late spring.

Driscoll said the appraisal money will be taken from a capital reserve account set aside for building improvements.

Also following a closed session, the board tentatively agreed to extend Driscoll’s contract through June 30, 2007. An evaluation is expected to be completed at the January board meeting, he said.

He began work at the vocational school in December 2004, at a salary of $74,000. He said his salary will be renegotiated during the 2006-2007 budget development process.
