LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Bates College women’s basketball team lost its third consecutive game with an 82-71 loss to Simpson College in the D3 Desert Shootout at the University of Nevada Thursday evening.
The Storm (7-3) led by as many as 32 points in the first half and seized a commanding 55-26 lead at the break. Katelyn Whiton led five players in double figures for the Storm with 16 points.
The Bobcats (4-5) began the second half by clawing their way back to within 11 points. Bates held the Storm to seven field goals in the second half and outscored the Storm 45-27.
Junior Meg Coffin and first-year Jackie Powers led Bates with 15 points apiece. Coffin added 12 rebounds and three assists. Matia Kostakis, playing in just her second game, added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Bobcats.
