CARTHAGE – Robert E. “Bob” Jackson Sr., 77, of Weld, died Friday, Dec. 23, in Carthage.

He was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Rumford, a son of, Eddie W. and Hazel (Hardy) Jackson. He attended schools in Weld and Dixfield.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob served during World Ware II. He worked as a boiler man for Stowell McGregor for 35 years and later at Strong Wood Products, retiring at the age of 68.

He was a member of the Weld American Legion and president of the Robertson Cemetery Association, which he and his wife, Sadie, maintained for many years.

He loved hunting, fishing, reading, gardening and telling stories.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by three sons, Robert Jackson Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Carthage, Melvin Knox and his companion, Beth Collins, of Carthage, and Calvin Jackson and his companion, Johnna Malinowski, of Carthage; a brother, Dexter Durant of South Paris; three sisters, Norma Knox and her husband, Kenneth, of Dixfield, Lillian Penley and her husband, Walter, of Dixfield, and Sally Welch and her husband, John, of Mexico; six grandchildren, Valerie and Spencer Knox, Justin, Jacob, Jeremy and Joel Jackson; and ex-wife, Evangeline Jackson of Carthage.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sadie Storer, in 2002; son, Hazen Jackson; brother, True Jackson; and great-grandson, Austin Barker.
