LEWISTON – Thomas X. Garrity, 81, of 1142 Main St., died early Friday morning at Marshwood Health Care Facility, with his family by his side, after a long illness.

He was born in Boston on April 27, 1924, the son of Francis X. and Mary L. (Martin) Garrity. He attended Auburn schools and was a 1943 graduate of Edward Little High School.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, he moved to Milford, Conn., to work at U.S. Motors for more than 25 years until its closing.

In the mid-1970s, he moved back to Maine, where he furthered his education at Auburn Community College, becoming an electrician. Until his retirement in 1990, his local employment included the former Lewiston Electrical Supply, Heritage Lightening and Gilman Electric.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.

Survivors include his wife, the former Patricia Curran whom he married Sept. 5, 1949, of Lewiston; three sons, Martin Garrity and his wife, Norma, of Guilford, Conn., Michael Garrity and his wife, Linda Thibault, of Auburn, and Timothy Garrity and his wife, Laurie, of Greene; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The Garrity family would like to thank the staff of Marshwood Health Care Facility for the excellent care extended to Thomas during his stay. The family will always remember your kindness.
