NORTH CONWAY, N.H. – Mt. Washington Observatory will participate in North Conway’s New Year’s festivities on Saturday, Dec. 31, featuring “Live from the Rockpile,” a live video teleconference with weather observers from the mountaintop observatory.

The Weather Discovery Center will open at 10 a.m. Admission to the museum is free for the day and includes entrance to exhibits, movies and family activities. Visitors will also receive a free weather poster featuring the artwork of Tomie de Paola.

Showings of “The World’s Worst Weather,” a 1984 film featuring a young Ben Affleck on his visit to the summit observatory in winter, are scheduled for 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The center will be closed at 5:30 p.m. for Schouler Park activities and reopen from 7:45 to 9 p.m. “Live from the Rockpile” will begin at 8 p.m. and will be followed by a showing of “A Tribute to Brad and Barbara Washburn,” a New Hampshire Public Television production.

Folks can participate in all the town’s activities by purchasing an event button for $5. Events run from 1 p.m. to midnight and a complete schedule can be found online: www.monarchevents.com.
