I do not believe any Mainers who vote for Democrats should get a cent of help with heat, no matter how poor. People should be forced to walk their talk.
For years, Democrats have screamed no oil drilling in Alaska, no oil drilling off Texas, no oil drilling in the Atlantic, no natural gas terminals in Maine, tax oil companies to the hilt, impose very high gas taxes to help pay pork spending. They have even lobbied hard when President Clinton was in office to raise oil prices to help force a change to hybrid cars. This was rhetoric in the 2000 election right into November for those of you who conveniently forgot.
So now we have super-high prices compared to 10 years ago, and Democrats have what they wanted. Now they show how honest they are and want their Republican neighbors to pay for their heating bills. Right.
Examine your stance and what you claim to be an honest (dishonest) statement. And don’t accuse me of having no compassion. Compassion is writing a check from your own account to hand-deliver to a poor neighbor, which I have done before. It’s not passing a law to legally steal from people you accuse of being rich to subsidize others living beyond their means.
